Rules for thank you letters.
Every thank you note is an opportunity to sell your qualifications and to leave a fresh impression in the mind of the reader. At the minimum, a thank you letter can leave one last impression before a final decision is made.
- Be brief and to the point.
- Repeat your interest in the position and/or company.
- Include an item of interest from your conversation.
- Repeat your qualifications and abilities.
- Always send your formal letter or handwritten note (depending on personal style or situation) to a person by name.
- If you have had multiple interviews at one company, thank each person, but be sure to vary the content.
- Make it a point to tell people when and how they can expect to hear from you in the future.
- Handwritten notes can have a powerful impact, unless you have poor penmanship and a typed letter is more effective.
Basic parts of a thank you letter: statement of appreciation for interview, expression of interest in employment, brief statement of qualifications
finally "thank you."
